Episode 4 – Sesquicentennial

Happy New Year! 2017 marks Canada’s sesquicentennial, our 150th anniversary of confederation. It’s going to be a year of celebration, and we are looking forward to sharing some amazing stories with you.

On this month’s show we hear about how Eighteen Bridges Magazine, LitFest and ECF are collaborating to celebrate Canada’s 150th from an Edmonton perspective. We find out how the Belcourt Brosseau Metis Awards are connecting recipients to their heritage. We learn about how the Edmonton Down Syndrome Society is empowering its members. And, we get a peek behind the scenes of Edmonton Community Foundation’s Board of Directors in the first of a two-part interview with Gurvinder Bhatia.

Special thanks to CKUA for allowing us to record our hosting in their studios!

In this episode, we learn a bit about Métis jigging. The music you hear during that segment was from this video: History of Métis Jigging, featuring musician Daniel Gervais on the fiddle.
